The statistics around global food waste are truly astonishing: one third of the world’s food is lost or wasted every year, that’s 1.3 billion tonnes at a value of $750 billion dollars, according to the Food Sustainability Index. It’s a problem many, including high profile chefs such as Massimo Bottura, are trying to address.

This infographic from Magnet has some interesting figures for the best and worst offending countries when it comes to food waste and the results may surprise you. It also details some of the initiatives being undertaken to try and tackle the problem, from apps right up to government policy.
