World Auction Puts the Alba White Truffle Under the Hammer

WORLD AUCTION PUTS THE ALBA WHITE TRUFFLE UNDER THE HAMMER

The excitement is building ahead of the 18th World Alba White Truffle Auction, due to take place in the home of the prized white gold in the heart of Langhe in northern Italy on 12 November.

Gourmets, foodies and philanthropists will all gather at the impressive Castle of Grinzane Cavour nestled amongst the undulating vineyards of one of the world's best wine growing areas for the annual bidding auction. Truffles will go under the hammer in lots together with large bottles of Barolo and Barbaresco.

How to choose white truffles

Unlike last year's bumper crop of truffles, this year's unfavourable growing conditions could mean the bidding gets exciting , as prices hit an all-time high at around 6000 euros a kg according to farmer's organisation coldiretti.

While the bidding itself will take place inside the historical hall at the castle, infront of international culinary enthusiasts and the Italian jet set, there will also be live satellite linkups to international bidders after the best white truffle specimens and fine wine.

Live from Hong Kong will be none other than "the King of Truffles" and Italian food ambassador, three Michelin star chef and mentor in S.Pellegrino Young Chef 2018 Umberto Bombana. A second link will be live to Dubai, kicking off the start of a celebratory Italian food week.

This year the Ambassador of the Alba White Truffle in the World award will be going to Antonino Cannavacciuolo, the well known two Michelin starred chef from Villa Crespi in Piedmont.

Last year the auction beat the historical fundraising record with € 450,000 donated to charities in the US and Hong Kong as well as charities in the local area.

If you can't make it, be sure to hook up to the action on the livestream.
