ROYAL WEDDING CAKES THROUGH THE AGES



Whether you're interested or not, you can't fail to have noticed that there's rather a large Royal Wedding taking place on 19 May between the UK's Prince Harry and his fiancé Meghan Markle.

The dress, the guest list, the kiss – everything at the Royal Wedding will be scrutinised, not least the Royal Wedding cake, which this year is a buttercream and lemon elderflower number from London's Violet bakery, run by American baker Claire Ptak.

But how does their's compare to previous Royal Wedding cakes?

Luckily The Telegraph has enthusiastically grafted together a look at Royal Wedding cakes through the ages, starting with the marriage of the then Princess Elizabeth and Philip Mountbatten in 1947.
