Teenage chef Flynn McGarry is to open his first permanent restaurant, in New York.

Gem, on Manhattan's Lower East Side, will have both a relaxed coffee shop and a formal dining space, Eater reports. Bookings are being taken from 27 February.

The dining space, known as The Dining Room, will offer a 12 to 15 course set menu for around $155 including gratuity, with the wine pairing another $100 on top. The liquor license is held by McGarry’s sister.

McGarry, now 19, shot to fame in his early teens after hosting a series of supper clubs and pop-ups and has worked briefly in the kitchens of both Eleven Madison Park in New York and Alinea in Chicago.

He has attracted criticism from some chefs however, who feel he hasn't earnt his dues.

A new documentary filmed over five years called Chef Flynn, focusing on McGarry, premiered at this month’s Sundance Film Festival. Watch a teaser courtesy of The Hollywood Reporter below.
