This is Me

It all started quite a few years ago now when a rather large baby of approximately 11 pounds or 5 KG to what must have been very excited and proud parents Rob and Carol in Brisbane Queensland.

Scorpio yes but do not hold it against me we have our positives and yes our challenges

Be wary of the Scorpion's sting. The Scorpio man is not a man to be trifled with. He is serious and sometimes stern, with little time for the non-essential and unimportant. He seems to see the world only in black and white. Shades of grey are too ambiguous and do not interest him.

He is incredibly curious, and wants to learn about everyone and everything, but he usually likes to figure these things out on his own. His keen sense of intuition helps him unearth the plain truth of things, and he is a master at asking questions that are both direct and penetrating. He rarely takes others' answers at face value, however, and comes to his own conclusions.

A Scorpio man always has a firm hold over his own destiny. He has control over any situation he finds himself in, and lives life on his own terms. There is deadly kind of beauty to the Scorpio man – he is independent, fearless, and ambitious. Don't get in his way and don't place any bets against him. A self-made winner, the Scorpio man rarely knows the pain of defeat. His stubbornness and resourcefulness will drive him to keep trying, determined to get what he wants. He is also hard working and enjoys the satisfaction of basking in the fruits of his labor.

The Scorpio man doesn't live under a rock like his animal sign does, but he is secretive and very complex at times, not likely to spill out his darkest secrets at the first sign of friendliness. In fact, friendships with a Scorpio man have to be proven and won with loyalty before he will get chummy. Attempts at trying to get too close too fast may result in him retreating to his lair in high suspicion and a little bit of alarm. You can't tame a Scorpio man. He's not a pet to be coddled or pampered but a natural force to be reckoned with.

Ruled by Mars the god of war and Pluto the god of the underworld, Scorpio men are intense, passionate, and filled with desire. They can be moody and vengeful, with a hot temper and long memories for any wrongs, imagined or otherwise, done against them. Intimidated yet? Well, once you get to know a Scorpio man, you will be happy you took the time. He is a delight in his own way - a man who cuts through appearances and gets to your very soul. He is more vulnerable than he lets on, and he is wiser than probably any other man you know.

All Scorpios have a long-term strategy and approach to life, so if you lose a battle with a Scorpio man today, it doesn't mean he's given up. He's probably just biding his time and waiting for an opportunity tomorrow. This sign is nothing if not resolute. Steamy Scorpios include Joaquin Phoenix, Matthew McConaughey, Leonardo di Caprio and Chris Noth.

Love, Sex, Romance, and Relationships with an Scorpio Man

Although a Scorpio man may seem unemotional, that's all just for show. Underneath his calm, cool, exterior is an electric undercurrent of roiling feelings. Like all water signs, he is much attuned to his own and others' emotions and feels deeply. Not much of this is on display for the outside world, however, as Scorpios dislike losing control over their own feelings, at least not publicly.

Love for a Scorpio man is both powerful and passionate, a catalyst that changes his entire life and outlook. He is a caring and devoted lover, if a little possessive. This possessiveness is just the Scorpio way of expressing his love. Behind his aloof exterior, the Scorpion is sensitive and loving but he will only let down his guard and show this side of his personality to the right partner. Scorpios are typically considered most compatible with Pisces and Cancer.

The Scorpio man's charisma and magnetic charm explode into a shower of sparks in the bedroom. Impossible to resist, he is darkly sexy and very intense. In the aftermath of sex with a Scorpio the phrase "best I've ever had" is often used to describe the encounter. His intuition and passion make the Scorpio man a perfect lover. An enigma between the sheets as well as out of them, this sense of mystery is often what draws so many lovers to a Scorpion's den. They are not usually disappointed by what they find there. If you're looking for safety, security, and missionary, then this Scorpion is not for you. Adventurous and lusty, the Scorpio man will try anything once, even if it's just to say he's been there, done that and doesn't think too much of it.

Understanding Scorpio Men

Multi-faceted and complex, the Scorpio man is an emotionally charged individual who can be as intimidating as he is passionate. Intensely loyal to friends and family, his unlimited fervor makes for a wildly exciting partner. Like his Zodiac sign, the Scorpion, he can be an ominous force to be reckoned with when angered.

As volatile as the Scorpio man's reputation, there's a surprisingly calm and collected side to his personality, and in fact, this is the side that is most commonly in place. When you combine this with an extremely analytical mind and a curious nature, you have a man whose exhilarating complexity is like nothing you've ever experienced before.

Money & the Scorpio Man

The Scorpio man has a need to be in control, so he manages money very well - usually. True to the intricate nature of this man, a compulsive behavior may sometimes take over and cause him to fork over money on an extravagance that's not really needed, but looks good in the driveway.

On the positive side, the Scorpio man can control his spending and will easily switch from needless expenditures to sitting with his banker and discussing appropriate financial investments for the future.

Fashion & the Scorpio Man

Since Scorpio is considered the sexiest sign of the Zodiac, what color could be more appropriate for this man than red? You won't see him all dressed in crimson unless he's presenting himself as Santa Claus, but his pin-striped suit could be accessorized with a red silk tie. And the color of that car he drives?

Expect the Scorpio man to be dressed in the latest styles with clothing selected to accent his strong physique and natural good looks. His jewelry will be well designed – distinctive, but not garish. From jeans to tuxedos, the Scorpio gentleman knows how to dress.

Relationships & the Scorpio Man

The Scorpio man enjoys his family and large circle of friends. Although he's generous and caring, those who have done him wrong may see an equally vindictive and nasty side to the Scorpio man's personality. However, many Scorpios have learned that the best revenge is living well, and will gladly freeze out any wrong-doer and simply live the best he can. Scorpios can be extremely wise. It's true that they might hold on to anger longer than most signs, but as they mature, they learn better ways to manage their emotions.

Although a Scorpio man enjoys looking into the lives of everyone around him, he maintains an air of secrecy about his own affairs. This sexy mystique adds one more dimension to an already complicated character profile.

Scorpio men are unafraid, or at least far less afraid than many men, of intensity in a woman or in a relationship. He won't avoid a tricky area, preferring to argue if need be than to gloss over deeper issues. This is a highly attractive trait to many people. As well, it should be noted that Scorpio men dislike being ignored or frozen out. The cold shoulder approach is not a good idea with a Scorpio partner.

Scorpio men are looking for someone "real". They are not impressed with superficiality and prefer that partners are true to themselves.

Romance & the Scorpio Man

Curious to a fault, the Scorpio man's insatiable need to know continues right into the bedroom. Spontaneous and always eager to try something new, the Scorpio man's voracious appetite for intimacy requires a partner equally as adventurous and passionate to keep pace with him. Little known fact about Scorpios: many are extremely understanding of their partners' needs and desires and will adjust accordingly.

A jealousy that borders on possessiveness can be the downside to this man's emotional intensity and he demands the full attention of his partner. Scorpios who have learned that possessiveness gets them nowhere, however, will allow a partner breathing room.

Health & the Scorpio Man

People with highly emotional temperaments may also be affected by stress-related health issues and the Scorpio man is no exception. He would be wise to routinely take a break from his overly active lifestyle and catch up on his rest. A little relax time is good for the Scorpio man – and probably appreciated by his partner.

If his companion thinks the rest time will last, then it's a wrong assumption. The free-spirited Scorpio man has an ability to quickly rejuvenate and normal ailments don't usually keep him off his feet for long.

Career & the Scorpio Man

The Scorpio man will be a success in whatever career path he chooses to follow. Tirelessly hard working, this man has a powerful work ethic which makes him an in-demand employee who's liked and respected by his supervisors and fellow workers alike.

When you consider his natural perceptiveness, a Scorpio man would do well in the areas of journalism, psychology, psychiatry, scientific research, and criminology.

Well that’s my star sign and some may be true

Cloudland A Piece of Brisbane's History Now Lost

Cloudland
Originally called Luna Park, Cloudland Dance Hall was a famous Brisbane entertainment venue located in Bowen Hills. It was demolished in 1982 and the site was subsequently developed into an apartment complex.

On its hilltop site above Brisbane, Cloudland's distinctive parabolic laminated roof arch, nearly 18 metres high, was highly visible. A funicular railway ran from the main road straight up the steep part of the hill and provided easy access to the Ballroom site. The funicular was dismantled in 1967 and the area was turned into a car park (?). Cloudland was the venue for numerous formal balls, concerts, weekend dances, civic events, school and university examinations and later, a marketplace.

History
It was constructed in 1939-40, by T.H.Eslick and opened on 2 August 1940.Eslick paid particular attention to the dance floor. He wanted to create the "best ballroom in the Southern Hemisphere".A funicular railway ran up the side of the hill from the tram stop on Breakfast Creek Road carrying passengers to the rear of the Ballroom. The site was originally intended to have a fun park like Luna Park in Melbourne, which Eslick had built in 1912.The fun park was not built by the time World War II began. It was the largest building of its type in Brisbane.

Eslick disappeared soon after Cloudland was opened so the building was left abandoned until 1942 when it was used by the American military. They arrived shortly after Pearl Harbour was bombed in December 1941.[3] When Cloudland was re-opened after the war, the name Luna Park was dropped and the building was thenceforth known as Cloudland Ballroom. As a gift to the people of Brisbane, the dance floor was rebuilt by the US military. The smooth hard floor was constructed of one inch tongue and groove boards that ran the length of the ballroom. The close fitting narrow boards were not nailed. The floor area reserved for dancing sat on huge metal coil springs placed uniformly underneath the bearers so that dancers could feel and see the movement of the boards beneath their feet.

Other features of the interior were huge decorative columns, sweeping curtains, domed sky lights and chandeliers. The dance floor was framed by private alcoves, decorative curtains, a domed skylights and chandeliers. Cloudland also had an upper circle of tiered seating which overlooked the floor and stage. An impressive tall domed entrance which features a wide, white, 18 metre tall arch[3] was also visible from surrounding suburbs.

Cloudland was purchased by sisters Mya Winters & Francis Rouch[2] for 16,000 pounds and re-opened on 24 April 1947. On 2 Sept 1948 Laurence Olivier and Vivien Leigh visited after doing the play School for Scandal for a débutants ball for the "Royal society of St George". Cloudland was later a Sunday markets and an exam venue by the University of Queensland.

Performances
As a pop/rock/old time music venue Cloudland hosted thousands of dances and concerts in the 50s, 60s and 70s, including a number of notable events. It hosted three of the six concerts performed by rock 'n' roll legend Buddy Holly on his only Australian tour in February 1958.

Music for Cloudland functions was provided by Brisbane musicians and Australian bands from the '50s to the early '80s, and for much of the 1960s it was the central venue for the Sunshine group. Sunshine was headed by Brisbane businessman Ivan Dayman (originally from Adelaide), who leased Cloudland from Apel around 1963. Dayman's entrepreneurial style had a formula that had proved successful in Adelaide and he applied this to his Cloudland enterprise. He commissioned arrangements of the latest pop tunes (Hit Parades/ Top Forty) adapted to the dances of the day, headhunted the best of Brisbane's musicians and performing artists and paid for rehearsals and dances were run during the week as well as on weekends. On public holidays and significant dates or long weekends during the year, midnight-to-dawn dances were run, usually with featured guest artists of national fame, e.g. The Bee Gees, Little Pattie. Dayman also installed a huge mirror ball over the centre of the ballroom's floor.

The dance steps comprised 40% Old Time and 60% Modern. Music for the dancers was provided by resident bands and vocal performers from the time of Cloudland's reopening after the war until its closure. Resident bands included The Billo Smith Orchestra, The Cloudland Big Band, The Rick Farbach Sextet, The Hi-Marks, The Sounds Of Seven, and The Seasons of the Witch. The dance programs in those times covered old time (Barn Dance, Canadian 3-Step, Pride of Erin, Old Time Waltz and in a roped off area at one end of the ballroom, jive), 'Modern' (Jazz Waltz, Quickstep, Foxtrot) and later The Twist and other popular dance crazes. Cloudland Ballroom was said to be the best finest ballroom in Australia.

Demolition
Despite strenuous public calls for its preservation, the building was demolished overnight on 7 November 1982 to make way for an apartment complex. The demolition was done by the Deen Brothers, a demolition company often used by the state government and Brisbane City Council for controversial demolition projects. The demolition took place despite there being no permit and in spite of its National Trust listing.

Legacy
Midnight Oil, who had played at Cloudland many times, immortalized the demolition in their song Dreamworld (from the Diesel and Dust LP) which attacked the greed of the pro-development forces. In 2004, a ballet Cloudland choreographed by Francois Klaus was premiered at the Brisbane Festival, and has since been performed in a number of Australian and European cities. A sculpture in Cowlishaw Street is called Cloudland Memorial Arch and was created by Jamie Maclean.

We moved to the UK in 1975 where my mother was from and my parents ran a general store in Birmingham

My Mum and Dad some years later at their 25th wedding Anniversary

Thus began my love of travel and a Yo-Yo ride of emigrating between The UK and Australia till I was 16 and we settled in Australia so I could complete my secondary education at my father’s old school at TSS in Southport, Queensland, Australia

The Southport School

(Established in 1901 by The Right Reverend Horace Henry Dixon, TSS is the oldest Anglican boys' boarding school in Queensland and the only all-boys boarding school on the Gold Coast.[2] The school has a non-selective enrollment policy and currently caters for approximately 1305 students from Preschool to Year 12, including 276 boarders from Years 7 to 12)

This was not destined to last for long due to my love and apparent talent for playing rugby union which led me to return to the UK via a rugby scholarship to Millfield in Dorchester UK

The Millfield School

(The school currently has a roll of 1,200 pupils, of whom 935 are boarders. The school offers a number of academic and sports scholarships, along with a number of bursaries. A charitable trust, the Millfield Foundation, raises money to fund scholarships and bursaries — this is seen as maintaining the 'Millfield mix'. The school is a member of the G20 Schools Group and a member of the Headmasters' and Headmistresses' Conference. Founded in 1935 by RJO Meyer (always affectionately referred to at Millfield just as "Boss") in the mansion originally owned by the Clark family, who owned and ran the shoe manufacturer Clarks. Meyer, educated at Haileybury and Imperial Service College, adhered to the philanthropic aim "...to nurture talent by providing the very best facilities, teaching, coaching and opportunities in which young people can exercise and explore their abilities; and to give awards to those in financial need.

In 1939, the school became one of the first independent schools to become co-educational. Over the years, the school acquired land and houses around the locale, and a result there were many boarding houses within a 10-mile (16-kilometer) radius of the original site; this resulted in boarders living at houses or billets in the outlying villages — being bused in and out for lessons and meals; over recent years, many of these houses have been sold and the proceeds invested in new on-campus boarding houses.)

Before My time but great old rugby Shots from 1913

I played U21's for Queensland and when in the UK played for my school, local team and first 15 and the Somerset U21's county team. Rugby is my only sport the game they play in heaven.

I played Center

After finding time to study in between rugby games and lots of training I got three “A” Levels in Economics, English and History and got a good enough score to gain entry to Bristol University in Economics and Management.

The History of the University of Bristol can be said to have begun in 1909 when the University of Bristol gained a Royal Charter which allowed the University to award degrees. Like most English universities, Bristol evolved from earlier institutions most notably University College, Bristol (founded 1876), Bristol Medical School (1833) and the Merchant Venturers' Technical College (founded as a school 1595 and which became the university Engineering faculty.

“About BSc Economics and Management
