WHAT IS SHOYU CHICKEN?

Hawaiian shoyu chicken is a dish featuring chicken thighs braised in a broth flavored with soy sauce, sugar, ginger and garlic. The name of this dish is derived from shoyu, the Japanese word for soy sauce.

Shoyu chicken is usually served with white rice and a side of macaroni salad. The braising liquid may be enhanced with the addition of scallions and chicken broth.
