Following the first ever Bocuse d'Or Africa selection, Morocco took gold beating 5 other teams from across the continent.

The first edition of the prestigious culinary competition to take place in Africa unfolded in Marrakech, Morocco on 30 June where culinary teams from Tunisia, Algeria, Burkina Faso, Senegal, Gabon and Morocco went head to head in a thrilling cooking competition that lasted five and a half hours.

However, it was young Moroccan chef Aissam Ait Ouakrim from Palais Soleiman in Marrakech that did enough to impress the prestigious tasting panel, being crowned winner on home turf with the support of his commis Kamal Ait Ayad and chef coach Issam Rhachi.

Team Tunisia and chef Marwne Younssi came second while the team from Senegal and chef Alioune Diop took bronze on the podium.

The first two teams, Morocco and Tunisia, will now represent the African continent at the Bocuse d'Or World Finale in January 2019 at the Sirha Show in LYON. There they will compete against 24 other teams that have already qualified from the other continental selection rounds including, Americas, Asia-Pacific and Europe.
