Salone del Mobile 2018 Unveils the Future of Kitchens

Now on its 57th edition, Milan’s Salone del Mobile furniture fair has become a regular calendar fixture for design lovers. This year it was the moment of the biennials of EuroCucina and FTK Technology For the Kitchen, who presented some ideas on future trends in the professional and domestic field.

If you haven’t had the opportunity to visit the fair (this year, from 12 to 22 April), FineDiningLoversoffers you a selection of the latest Kitchen news presented during this year’s edition.

THE KITCHEN OF THE FUTURE

Interconnection and functionality will be the two elements that characterise the kitchen of the future. As the architect, Marco Romanelli says, "what appears to be significantly declining today is the traditional subdivision between bases and wall units, considered unsuitable to express the spatial values of boundless horizontal plans."

Aesthetics will also play a fundamental role. Lines are clean and compositions angular, as in the case of Ratio from the Italian company Dada.

There will also be a trend to create closed surfaces, such as Inside System by Ernestomeda or Logica Celata by Valcucine: with sliding doors that close and hide the entire kitchen structure.

Lounge by Veneta Cucine instead plays with floor to ceiling walls units and the void between the floor and surfaces for the preparation and cooking of ingredients.

MORE INTELLIGENT ELECTRO DOMESTICS

The seventh edition of FTK Technology For the Kitchen, a side event of EuroCucina, was an opportunity to reflect on technology and present innovative products and concepts in the kitchen.

Smart appliances will save time and energy thanks to the integration of Wi-Fi technology. Through the use of remote devices, a dialogue between man and machine will be created. Candy and Samsung aim for 360-degree connectivity and smart technology in the kitchen. For example, Candy's Watch & Touch oven with full-touch display port fully connected with Wi-Fi technology and Samsung's SmartThings App, which allows you to control and activate kitchen appliances wherever you are.

Hoover's Vision 2.0 is a concrete example of a Smart Kitchen. Using sophisticated technology, the touchscreen oven, induction hob, hood, refrigerator and dishwasher can all communicate with each other.

Meanwhile, Miele offers an innovative electromagnetic wave cooking system with a variable frequency whose intensity is regulated by two sensors. Dialog Oven is, in fact, able to modify the cooking process of the ingredients by recognising their structure.

There are also many examples of technology and innovation in the area of refrigeration. Like the domestic use BlastChiller from Electrolux which, with is able to measure the core temperature of food with a special thermaprobe, or the Fhiaba multifunction blast chiller with 11 functions that can be used together.

Integration also seems to be the key word also for Falmec and Franke who, with Sintesi and Mythos 2-Gether, have created a single induction hob and suction system that integrates seamlessly with the worktop and disappears totally when closed.
