Michelin Guide to Bangkok 2018 - All the Stars

MICHELIN GUIDE TO BANGKOK 2018 - ALL THE STARS

News - 17 Michelin stars for Bangkok

The inaugural edition of the Bangkok Michelin guide has been released with news of three two star restaurants and 14 one star restaurants, including a street food stall. There were no three stars.

Gaggan Anand took two stars with his eponymous restaurant Gaggan serving progressive Indian cuisine, which has also taken the top spot on Asia's 50 Best list for three consecutive years. Alongside him were the Mandarin Oriental’s elegant French restaurant, Le Normandie, and the Japanese influenced Mezzaluna restaurant, on the 65th floor of the Lebua Hotel.

A total of 14 establishments were awarded one star, including the twin chefs with their modern German restaurant, Sühring, and upscale Thai restaurants, David Thompson's Nahm and Bo.Lan restaurant.

Street food vendor, taxi driver favourite and all-round local legend, 70-year-old grandmother Jay Fai, was also awarded one star for her crab omelettes, crab curries and dry congee.

Awarding stars to street food was also a practice adopted in Singapore's inaugural guide when two hawker stalls were awarded one star each in 2016.

There were also 33 Bib Gourmand recommendations, for exceptionally good food at moderate prices.
