APPLICATIONS OPEN FOR THE INTERNATIONAL VEGETARIAN HAUTE CUISINE COMPETITION

Applications are now open for the fifth edition of The Vegetarian Chance international contest, the haute cuisine competition dedicated to vegetarian food.

Professional chefs have until 28 February to apply for next year's competition which will be held in Milan on 13 May 2018, during the same week S.Pellegrino Young Chef 2018.

The recipes presented must be fully vegan and may also include garlic and onion. There's also prize money up for grabs which has increased to CHF 3000 ($3044) for the winner and CHF 2000 ($2029) for second place.

Last year's winner was Gijs Kemmeren, chef at the Herberg de Kop van 't Land Hotel Restaurant in Dordrecht, The Netherlands, who took gold with a pea soup and classic asparagus (top image). In second place was chef Rafael Rodriguez of Quechua in Milan with his Andean-Amazon inspired dishes.

WHAT IS THE VEGETARIAN CHANCE?


The Vegetarian Chance haute cuisine contest was created by chef Pietro Leemann, of Michelin starred vegetarian restaurant Joia and journalist Gabriele Eschenazi in 2014 with the intention of continually enhancing vegetarian cuisine.
