WE TAKE A LOOK INSIDE THE WORLD'S BEST BAR

How do you create the best drinks in the world? It’s a pretty tough ask, but in the case of the American Bar, which was just named as the world’s best bar, the answer is simple: create perfectly balanced cocktails that tell wonderful stories, reflect history, moments and surprise guests with a splash of theatre and lashings of technique.

Sat inside the glamorous Savoy Hotel in London, American Bar is a place to kick back and soak in a special atmosphere. It was first opened as American Bar back in 1904 by Ada ‘Coley’ Coleman, whose signature cocktail was the Hanky Panky and today, crowned as the world’s best, the drinks director is Erik Lorincz who has been the creative mind behind the cocktails since 2011.

A quick look at the menu reveals a wide array of cleverly crafted cocktails. Many of the drinks take people on a journey, at the moment that journey is across England thanks to a Coast to Coast themed menu with tastings such The Pennines: a collection of cocktails with industrial influence that reflect on the roles of Yorkshire and Lancashire during the industrial revolution. Others include Sherwood Forest, Castle Rock and The Garden of England.

The drinks are ambitious in flavour pairings, smart in twists and substantial in the way in which they are delivered with tales, ideas, culture and history all sewn into the syrup.

Watch Erik Lorincz as he explains a little about the amount of work that goes into making cocktails at American Bar.
