CHEFS LOVE THIS SMOKED WATER IN A BOTTLE

Previously, we showed you how to smoke ice, using a smoking gun, to take your cocktails to a whole new level of flavour. But did you know you could actually buy smoked water, conveniently, in a bottle?

The Oak Smoked Water from Halen Môn, a small Welsh company that supplies sea salt to some of the world’s best restaurants, including Blue Hill at Stone Barns and Eleven Madison Park, is produced by circulating tap water through oak chips and dust for 10 days, reports Bloomberg, producing an amber coloured liquid that tastes and smells of burnt wood.

The product was developed on the request of Heston Blumenthal, who wanted an easy way to imbibe dishes at The Fat Duck with a smoky flavour, and has actually been around since 2013. You can now get your hands on it for £4.13 ($4.50) per 100ml.

By all accounts it’s fairly potent stuff and not for drinking, though the makers do suggest freezing into ice cubes for cocktails and with autumn/winter on the horizon this could be just the comforting flavour note your fireside drinks need.
