BOURDAIN SAVAGES ELITE YELPERS: 'BAD FOR CHEFS, BAD FOR RESTAURANTS'

We know a lot of chefs hate Yelp, but Anthony Bourdain really despises its most prolific reviewers, the elite Yelpers.

Speaking to Business Insider, Bourdain said “there’s really no worse, or lower human being than an elite Yelper,” saying that they are bad for restaurants and chefs, who “universally” loath them. He describes them as the “very picture of entitled, negative energy.”

The fact that an elite Yelper – “a contradiction in terms” he says – can trash a new restaurant straight after opening is just plain wrong. “You know, you open a restaurant, you struggle for a year to put together the money, you work your heart out, and then 10 minutes after opening, some miserable b------ is tweeting or Yelping, “Worst. Dinner. Ever… that ain’t right.”

Bourdain is however, “perfectly happy with Instagram and Twitter as a fully democratic bathroom wall that anyone can write on,” though we have to be vigilant to how we translate the information we receive, he says.
