Coconut flour is a great gluten-free alternative for baking and cooking. It can replace wheat flourin virtually any recipe but there is one essential thing you must do if you plan on cooking with coconut flour.

Since coconut flour is denser than wheat flour you will need to increase the amount of liquid in the recipe. How much extra liquid do you need? That depends on what you are making.
HOW MUCH LIQUID DO I NEED WHEN COOKING WITH COCONUT FLOUR?

If you are using a combination of wheat flour and coconut flour in baked goods then you should increase the amount of liquid using a 1:1 ratio. For instance, if you use 1 cup of wheat flour and 1/2 cup of coconut flour in a waffle recipe then you would add an extra 1/2 cup of liquid to the recipe.

When solely using coconut flour in a recipe you'll want to match the amount of liquid to the amount of flour, ie. for every cup of coconut flour you will need one cup of liquid.

What constitutes a liquid? Water, milk, coconut milk, nut milks, oil, melted butter and eggs all count as a liquid. Just measure each ingredient according to a 1:1 ratio.
ANOTHER ESSENTIAL TIP FOR COOKING WITH COCONUT FLOUR

When baking with coconut flour it's always a good idea to allow the batter to rest. This will give the coconut flour time to absorb the liquid, thus improving the consistency of baked goods.
