10 REASONS TO VISIT ITALY THIS FALL





When it comes to the bounty of autumnal produce, Italy can lay claim to being the land of plenty.

Whether we're talking fine wines and world famous white truffles or humbler sweet chestnuts and pumpkin this is a country that does the season in style.

From bacchalian affairs to street food festivals, the arrival of the new season's gifts are always cause for celebration.

Here are some of the highlights of fall in Italy, where the wine is sure to keep flowing and the marrone keep on roasting.

FESTIVAL INTERNAZIONALE DEL GELATO ARTIGIANALE
PALERMO - 28 SEPTEMBER TO 1 OCTOBER



Ice cream is a serious thing in Italy. And in Sicily even more so. From 28 September to 1 October, Palermo celebrates artisan ice cream with the Sherbeth Festival. Concerts, workshops - even for children - book presentations and tastings complete the festivities. There will also be an international flavour with ice creams to try from Japan, Spain, Portugal, Holland, France and Mexico. Because ice cream knows no bounds.

ALBA TRUFFLE FESTIVAL, ALBA, PIEDMONT
8 OCTOBER TO 27 NOVEMBER



Follow your nose through the thronged historic streets of Alba to the White Truffle World Market - the largest international exhibition of truffles in the world showcasing the "trifolao's" quality assured bounty. Keep an eye on this year's prices which can fluctuate annually depending on the quantity of white truffles to be found. If you're outpriced, don't worry there are plenty of market stalls and other food fun and celebrations to be had, including the Bocuse d'Or italy selection on 1 October 2017.

FIERA NAZIONALE DEL MARRONE, CUNEO, PIEDMONT
13 TO 15 OCTOBER



Find marrone roasting on an open fire and more in this popular seasonal celebration of chestnuts sweeter cousin of beloved marron glace. There are plenty of local foods to be had at the market as well allowing revellers to get a taste of just what's special about this land at the foot of the mountains.

MODENA CHAMPAGNE EXPERIENCE
8 TO 9 OCTOBER



Not technically an Italian produce, but nonetheless a great chance to discover everything about the wonderful world of champagne in Modena on October 8 and 9, 2017. More than 350 types of champagne will be on display from more than 90 Champagne houses plus tastings and Master Classes for an unforgettable two days.

14 AND 15 OCTOBER



The history, craft and of this historical cheese will be celebrated along with many products that are born in the area including apples, honey, Bresaola IGP ...

SAGRE DEL UVO DI MARINO, LAZIO
1 AND 2 OCTOBER



This lively annual sagra can be found 15 miles south of Rome where the highlight is a fountain flowing with wine. Revellers can line their stomachs with local delicacies from stalls selling porchetta and ciambelle al mosto (a ring-shaped cake with raisins)

PUMPKIN FESTIVAL MANTOVA
8 SEPTEMBER TO 8 DECEMBER



Pumpkins are given a proper celebration in cooking classes, vegetable carving lessons, festivals, and farmers markets allowing you to buy directly from the producers and learn the secrets to recognising a good pumpkin.

EIN PROSIT, FRUILI VENEZIA GIULIA
19 TO 22 OCTOBER



In Friuli Venezia Giulia, this food and drink event dedicated to wine takes place between Tarvisio and Malborghetto from 19 to 22 October 2017. The Exhibition - Assaggio held in the halls of the 16th Venetian Palace of Malborghetto forms the heart of the event, where producers will bring four wines for tasting. Great Italian chefs willl also be taking turns in the kitchen giving visitors an unmissable taste of Michelin starred dinners.

13 TO 22 OCTOBER



This is biggest chocolate festival in Italy that comes to the Umbrian capital of Perugia every October. Where better to celebrate than in the home of Baci Perugina. A sweet experience not to be missed.
