Students generally get a bad rap when it comes to their culinary creations, but two college kids at Boston University are proving the doubters wrong, hosting popular omakase (tasting menu) dinners for fellow students – in their dorm room.
The 803 restaurant, so called because of the room number, is the work of Jarrett Deutsch and Ethan Cole, both 19. Looking to cut back on their food spending they started making their own sushi, the leftovers of which soon proved to be a hit with students in their block.
So, they decided to open a restaurant. For the whole of the last semester, the enterprising pair charged diners up to $35 a head for a 10 course nigiri tasting, the New York Post reports. They were often serving over 30 people a night, seated on drape-covered beds.
